Ciento Cellars

Paso Robles, CA

Project Stats

Ashley & Vance Engineering provided comprehensive structural and civil engineering services from preliminary design through construction documents for Ciento Cellars, an expansive multi-structure residential compound and winemaking estate. This high-profile wine-country project blends traditional architectural aesthetics with complex engineering, seamlessly connecting a 6,300 sq.ft. two-story main residence, a 1,300 sq.ft. guest residence, and a 1,400 sq.ft. bunk house over a garage via a series of sweeping exterior arcades—all set alongside a detached 2,400 sq.ft. winery facility.

Our structural team provided the framework for the estate’s grand architectural vision, utilizing precision-engineered wood framing, custom steel connections, and specialized trusses to achieve expansive open-concept living, soaring vaulted ceilings, and large-span covered terraces. Simultaneously, our civil team managed critical site logistics, slope stabilization, and environmental compliance to anchor the multi-acre development within the natural topography. From custom foundations for a subterranean wine cellar to comprehensive stormwater management, every engineering detail was designed to support both luxury living and operational agricultural facilities.

Key Features:

  • Luxury Residential Compound Framing: Engineered structural connections to seamlessly link the 6,300 sq.ft. main home, guest residence, and garage bunk house via custom exterior arcades, featuring exposed vaulted timber framing in the primary suite and outdoor living areas.

  • Integrated Subterranean Wine Cellar: Detailed specialized foundations and subterranean retaining systems for a hidden 1,100 sq.ft. basement wine cellar below the main residence.

  • Hillside Grading & Retaining Systems: Engineered custom site retaining walls up to 6 feet tall alongside structural building walls up to 11 feet tall to integrate the sprawling estate naturally into the sloping terrain.

  • Dedicated Winery & Ag Infrastructure: Designed structural framing for a standalone 2,400 sq.ft. winemaking facility and a 1,250 sq.ft. agricultural building using engineered lumber to support 16-foot tall plate heights.

  • Comprehensive Civil & Environmental Compliance: Developed site-wide grading, drainage, and private utility plans, including a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) and new septic system design to secure state environmental WDID permits.

  • High-Performance Lateral Design: Strategic placement of plywood shear walls within Type V wood framing allowed for expansive floor-to-ceiling window openings up to 11 feet high without compromising structural resilience.
