The Ava Hotel

Paso Robles, CA

Project Stats

Situated in downtown Paso Robles, this new four-story, 122,000-square-foot boutique hotel brings a blend of luxury and hospitality to the city center. Supported by a concrete podium deck, the four-star destination features three upper levels of guest rooms, a pool, covered pavilion, and landscaped courtyards. The ground floor houses a restaurant, retail spaces, a lobby, and structured parking.

Our team delivered full civil and structural engineering services to bring the high-density project from initial layout through permitting and construction. On the civil side, the team engineered on-site grading, utilities, erosion control, and public frontage improvements along 10th and Pine Streets. The site’s topography and native oak trees required elevated perimeter fill walls up to 6 feet tall, backed by specialized foundation systems and geogrid tiebacks. To meet strict environmental and state NPDES standards on the 1+ acre site, the design integrated subterranean storage chambers alongside eco-friendly landscaping to manage both on-site runoff and historical flow paths to the adjacent UPRR right-of-way.

Structurally, the four-story design incorporates a three-level post-tensioned podium deck supporting Type III steel framing above. Beyond standard gravity and lateral analysis, our engineers worked directly with the contractor to reanalyze and adjust the podium deck layout, implementing strategic pour strips and revised post-tensioning tendons to accommodate phased construction sequencing without sacrificing long-term integrity.
