River Lodge Motel
Project Stats
The River Lodge Motel in Paso Robles is a renovated mid-century motel that now serves as a retro-chic resort. The project included a complete site overhaul, modernization of guestrooms, a new lobby, restoring the iconic sign, and adding a central pool and restaurant/bar. Sustainability was a priority, with the design team focusing on minimal renovation and the use of eco-friendly practices. The boutique hotel aims to provide a contemporary, fun, and intimate experience for travelers while preserving the original architecture.
From entitlement through construction, the civil team supported this 3-acre renovation every step of the way. The site improvements created a private, rustic-modern aesthetic with personal room patios and lawn space, and a central courtyard with gardens, fire pits, heated pool and hot tub. The new parking area was constructed with a pervious gravel paver system which kept with the rustic theme and met city fire and stormwater requirements. The site was also encase in a new 8-ft sound wall to reduce noise pollution. Public Improvements to Theatre Drive and Alexa court were also made in support of the project including curb, gutter and sidewalk and the addition of a center turn lane, bike lane, and commercial driveway to Theatre Drive.
This project received an Award of Honor and recognition for historic preservation and design by AIA California Central Coast.
